Hello parents, guardians, students, and fellow teachers. My name is Mr. Obinna I. Uchime and welcome to my page. I am an educator with the ability to teach grades 6-12 and post secondary levels. I have taught the following course at the high school level: Biology I, Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II (Biology II), Botany, Environmental Science, Forensic Science, AP – Biology, Chemistry, Physical Science, and Trig-Based Physics While in undergraduate, I have worked in a botany laboratory as a research assistant for Dr. Stacy Bennetts while at Augusta University. I was the science laboratory coordinator at D.H. Stanton Elementary (Now Barack and Michelle Obama school) where I designed and implemented hands-on labs according to the Georgia Performance Standards for sciences in grades 3-5.
I graduated from Creekside High School, which is located 20 miles south of Atlanta in Fairburn, GA. After graduating from high school, I decided to take my talents to the United States Navy where my job title was an Information System Technician. In the Navy I gained my A+ certification and my FCC license in radio communication. One of my biggest achievements while in the Navy was receiving combat training at Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp in Cuba before/during my final deployment in South Pacific. After 4 years of active duty, I was honorably discharged from the armed forces and served an additional four years as a reservist. Immediately following my military career I attended Augusta State University (now Augusta University), which is located in Augusta, GA. I graduated from Augusta State University in three years with a Bachelors of Science in Biology and a Bachelors of Art in Psychology with a 3.8 GPA. After a 5 year rest, I went back to school and received my Masters in Biology from Clayton State University.
During that five year rest, I had the pleasure of working for the Department of Homeland Security at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and Atlanta Public Schools as a science instructor while being able to continue other ventures. I received my Ed.S in Secondary Science/Biology and I am currently working on my doctorate degree in middle grades and secondary science. Also throughout the pass five years, I have develop positive relationships with Emory University’s Outreach Program, I.M.A.G.E, andThe Teach Shop. Through my partnership with Emory University’s Community Outreach Program, I was able to have my Human A&P students at Maynard H. Jackson High School perform sutures with Emory University medical students. It was a great experience for all the students involved. Through my partnership with Simple Science Kits, I am able to receive science kits, science equipment, and other science products at a discount and in many cases free of charge. This allows me to provide quality service for all students in my classes.
